2019 -2020 Bonwest Limited/Chuck's Roadhouse Peewee AE Bulls are OMHA Peewee AE1 Co-Champions!!!
Eleven months ago 17 players were selected to become the 2019-2020 Bonwest Limited/Chuck’s Roadhouse Peewee AE Belleville Jr. Bulls. At that time a goal was set to become the OHMA Peewee AE champions.  To reach that goal it had to be 1 team and not 17 individual players.  The team moto became WE > ME. This motto was the driving motivation for the coaching staff to show and teach these players that playing as 1 team they can accomplish far more than playing as 17 individuals working on different goals.

The teams training regimen consisted of the BMHA development camp, BMHA goalie sessions, 48 team practices, John Boultbee development sessions, Kira Hurley goalie development sessions and the Belleville Senators coaching clinics. Many players also took on individual development sessions on top of the team sessions.  This drive to improve showed up on the game sheet finishing the regular season 22-3-2, a tournament record of 14-1-1 bringing home 2 tournament championships and 1 semifinalist.  In the myhockeyrankings.com Ontario 07 B+ rankings the Bulls saw a high ranking of 1st and a low ranking of 11th finishing 7th out of 250 teams. They are also the highest ranked AE team.

Enter the playoffs, the Bulls finished the first round of the OMHA’s 4-0 beating both Oshawa and Northumberland to advance to the quarter finals.  The quarter finals had the Bulls take on the York Simcoe Group 1 winner Whitchurch-Stouffville. After splitting the first 2 OT games the Bulls pulled off back to back shutouts to take the series.  OMHA semifinals saw the Bulls take on the Whitby Wildcats (Blue) last year’s OMHA champions. After falling 0-2 to start the series the Bulls regrouped and with the motivation of the coaching staff the team rebounded winning the next 3 games to reach the OMHA Finals.

Then the hockey world stopped.  Hockey Canada had cancelled the rest of the season the day before the finals were to begin due to the COVID-19 health crisis.  In an instance the world changed for these 17 players. Hard to tell 12-13 year olds that their season was done without a final series.  Anger and disappointment would only be temporary, as they would realize their health and the health of others was more important.  Who would have thought that the team moto WE > ME would take on a bigger meaning.

It has been almost a month since the cancellation of the season and today OMHA has announced that the 2019-2020 Bonwest Limited/Chuck’s Roadhouse Peewee AE Belleville Jr. Bulls are OMHA Peewee AE1 Co-Champions. Congratulations to the team for all their hard work.

Stay home stay safe.  WE > ME
