ImPACT Testing Information

ImPACT, (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing), is an on-line computerized test that helps determine how well a brain is functioning. It tracks information such as memory, reaction time, speed, and concentration and has been shown effective in assisting in the diagnosis and management of concussions. All Representative team players in Pee Wee Minor to Midget Major are now required to have a baseline ImPACT test prior to the start of each season. Team trainers are responsible for obtaining their team login information in order for players to do the test on-line, and for collecting the confirmation page from players once they have completed their test. BMHA will bill each team $10 per player and pay ImPACT on the team’s behalf directly for the service.

If during the course of a season a player is diagnosed with a concussion, a Post-Injury ImPACT test is required as part of a player's return to play in accordance with the BMHA Concussion/Safe Return to Play Policy, and must be done in a health professionals office. At present Dr Christopher Bardwell at the Quinte Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic is performing this service for the BMHA. Please contact his office to make arrangements.

Once a successful post-injury test is completed, a player is to take those results to their Family Physician or Dr Bob Webster, as part of their assessment for medical clearance for return to play. A physician is the only health professional that can do this. Dr Webster will also assist those families in the event they cannot obtain an appointment with their own physician within a suitable time period. Please note, a fee is associated with both the post-injury testing and a return to play note and if possible, Dr Webster's office would prefer a referral note from the player's own physician.
