A Tough Start to the Season
The John Harvey State Farm Insurance/Newman Oliver & McCarten Insurance Minor Atom AE Belleville Junior Bulls opened their season with a pair of games this past weekend, against two very tough opponents.
On Saturday evening, the team travelled down the 401 to take on the Whitby Wildcats, in the very same rink where the Bulls OMHA playoff run ended in overtime last season. This year's Bulls squad has several new faces, and this was the coaching staffs' first opportunity to see the boys in action together. The team got a nifty breakaway goal from Noah Roy, and two other markers from Travis Whitmore and Ethan Walsh. Both Keegan Murphy and Cameron Adamson chipped in with one assist each. Although the Bulls played hard and carried the play for good portions of the game, Whitby pressed the attack and was able to score a 6-3 victory. The Bulls Player of the Game: Ethan Yuke.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bulls welcomed the Oshawa Generals to town. This proved to be a much tighter contest as both teams traded chances throughout the game, with Oshawa only putting the game out of reach late in the 3rd period; ending 4-2. Noah Roy continued his fast start to the season, getting the Bulls on the board in the 2nd period. Nicholas Martin scored the other goal and in only his second rep hockey contest. Reed Andrus, Keegan Murphy, Tanner Zadworny, and Travis Whitmore all chipped in with assists. In an odd twist of fate, the Bulls who had just named Nicholas Parodo as their second goalie for the season hours before, had to put him in for most of the 3rd period. Welcome to the Bulls Nicholas! The Bulls Player of the Game: Nolan Elmy.
