U12AA Bulls Stun Nighthawks in Monday Night Hockey Showdown
The Belleville Bulls faced off against the Northumberland Nighthawks at home for their 3rd game in 3 days. The Bulls battled fatigue and it showed during a tight battle that took until the final minutes to decide the outcome. The Bulls were relentless and their no-quit never die attitude gave them a come from behind 5-3 win at home in front of a packed FDC Arena.
The 1st period at home would be a close period with chances on both sides. It was a very tight period with solid goaltending and defence on both sides. In the final minute of the 1st period, Knox S would loosen up the puck with some solid forechecking. Luis G would pick up the pick in the corner and move to his forehand and snipe to open the scoring for the Bulls.
The 2nd period would be all Nighthawks. They pressed hard with some unlucky bounces for the Bulls and would put lots of pucks on the net that found their way in. After a timely timeout by the coaching staff, the Bulls would find life and Mason P would make some big saves at 4:48 and 2:04 left in the period. to keep it close. The Nighthawks would close the period with a late one and would go up 3-1 going into the 3rd period.
The Bulls have managed this script well in the past and went into the 3rd period with confidence. Nate G would put them on the board midway through the 3rd with some ferocious forechecking which would loosen the puck up and allow him to go in on the goalie alone. He would score to make it 3-2. The momentum was shifting and the Bulls strong forecheck was starting to wear down the Nighthawks defence. More of the same on the 3rd goal for the Bulls with Griff M-G on the forecheck and battling down low caused a defensive turnover. The defence tossed the puck up in the slot to Dylan P who scored to tie up the game.
The Nighthawks would respond with some passing and speed but the Bulls defence rose to the challenge. Blake P would make a great stop on a 1 on 1 with 3:18 left that would turn out to be a huge play for the Bulls. The Bulls would take that momentum and with 3 minutes left in the game, the Bulls would stun the Nighthawks when Luis G would free the puck up, get past both defenders and snipe to make it 4-3. Nate G would battle for the insurance goal and would be awarded a penalty shot on an empty net which resulted in automatic goal for the Bulls. The Bulls are rolling and face off against the Nighthawks in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon. Go Bulls Go!
